Perhaps this subject has been discussed here before and I just don't remember it, but I'd appreciate any insights into the notion of a third temple being built in Jerusalem, in the future. Apparently, this notion is loosely derived from the prophesied "abomination that causes desolation" which is mentioned several times in Daniel, and also in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and is omitted from Luke 21, although a "desolation" is mentioned (vs. 20). Well, this abomination is supposed to be set up in a temple, and seeming that the temple is currently non-existent it would have to be built (again!) for this to be fulfilled in the future. I don't follow this reasoning, really. As far as I know, why couldn't the abomination that causes desolation have been set in place when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and burned the temple? Didn't general Titus erect an idol on that very site, as well? I know there are countless other speculations as to the fulfillment of this prophecy. What are your thoughts?
