First check out the resources at hand. Many churches have files or bookshelves with collected materials and ideas just waiting to be used. Then to check for story ideas on the net simply type in the name of the story and the word lesson and hit search. Example: Jesus and the ten lepers lesson. That will give you ideas, but first you need to know the story facts. Also those before and after the story. It doesn't just stand alone in the Bible, but is a part of the continuity of the word given us by God. Then know why it is in the Bible. Many stories have been stretched to fit a moral or lesson. Change the point of your lesson to fit God's word or change your choice of story so it does fit the point, but don't change God's word. Then teach from your heart. Don't try and fit into someone else's style. You will develop your own and it will be the best for you. Don't feel pressured to use other people's materials because they are good teachers and know what it best. It may not be the best for you and will not make your teaching better. Look at what others have done and choose what you are comfortable with. If a lesson falls flat chalk it up to experience and figure out what went wrong. Lack of preperation? Tired kids? Sick kids? Change in the weather? Too hard? Too easy? Whatever, just don't give up because of it.
