The experience of Donor Offspring parallels that of adoptees who are
prohibited from full knowledge of their origins. The world's first
totally free online search information and Reunion Registry for Donor Offspring & Donor Parents is at http:/abolishadoption.com/DonorOffsping.html,
sponsored by Americans For Open Records (AmFOR)as a public service. The site owner, author of Chosen Children, has helped over 12,000 adoptees to reconnect with their "birth" families and is hoping the Donor Registry will do the same for Donor Offspring and Donor Parents.

Is there an uncreepy side of selective breeding? Now men in other ages had a notion that if they didn't like the offspring of one wife, they'd try another... or was that in other ages?

In the story of Jacob and his wives this exchange took place:

When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I'll die!"

Jacob became angry with her and said, "Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?" (Gen 30:1-2 NIV)

The part of that I present for relevance is "Am I in the place of God..." Men always have asapired to that place, individually, and corporately.

The second half though is relevant to the couple in question that wants the deaf babies ("who has kept you from having children?"). The other part of the story as I've heard it is that they are a lesbian couple (which is a big part of why they are going the route of artificial insemination). I understood that they sought a deaf "donor" for "their" first child, and she was born deaf. Now they've done the same thing again. I don't suppose the details are necessary to the question of creepiness, but this isn't just the creepy side of selective breeding, it's the creepy side of breeding.

The fact is, the unknown combinations that will result from the coupling of a man and a woman in God's design are risky in many respects, but nothing like the risks of letting people actually control or choose the kinds of combinations of traits and characteristics they think they want. We haven't seen the last -- probably barely the beginning -- of people trying to shape their children before conception. Eugenics redivivus.

And by the way, just as an aside, contrary to the assertions a few years ago when the idea of homosexual men and women adopting babies began to gain acceptance, when the unsupported claim was that homosexuality was a genetic mandate and not a choice or a learned appetite, the data is now confirming that children raised in homosexual homes are more likely to be homosexual or bisexual themselves than the population at large. Big surprise.
