I do not find interpretation offensive in the least bit. And I am sorry that you have felt dismissed when people say "that's your opinion." Generally when I tell someone that a certain veiw is how they interpret it, I am not dismissing them, simply pointing out that they should be aware of other ideas and opinions. hat is offensive is when people never stop to consider that what they say could perhaps be the incorrect interpretation. As if any man has so much knowledge that it is impossible for him to be wrong? Bah. A simple and hopefully unoffensive example is our churchs belief that no musical instruments shoudl be used in church. I have yet to hear an answer or been quoted a scripture that obvioulsy supports this rule. I have heard people use interpretation to make a stretch for the idea. I have no problem wiht an idea being proved by facts, reasoning, etc, but that is often not the case when it comes to the bible. Ben makes a good point of stating cultural context making a difference, but I often heard of people putting one scripture in cultural context, and taking another out of it. Who gets to decide which ones apply always and which apply during certain periods of time?
