: Very nice, steven. When you see the Israelis doing all they can to begin to implement the 'road map', while the 'Palestinians' do absolutely nothing except continue to commit acts of murder and terrorism, it makes one wonder if the Psalmist was actually loooking into the 21st century. But maybe, like most Biblical writing, he was writing for his own time - as they say, 'what goes around...'

Of course he was writing for his own time, and all times, including our own. Human nature continues the same, God continues the same. The urge to faithful confidence ("do not fret") is not naively expressed, but based in the real world observation that evil often seems to prevail, then and now, but will ultimately be undone. David expressed confidence that righteousness, faithfulness, is and will be rewarded, particularly in the long term, in God's time. The same faith is certainly expressed in the New Testament as well, with several phrases of this Psalm turning up in the writings there. The believer is well advised to settle down and trust God, as David wrote.

Without regard to whether or not the modern Israelis have committed their way to the LORD, as described in the Psalm, but in regard to the Palestinian violence, they are of course hurting Israelis, but mostly they are hurting themselves and their own people. Isn't that quite consistent with the message of the Psalm? Last week I was talking to an Israeli brother. He affirmed that for most in Israel everyday life goes on as usual. The attacks directly affect few people, and he likened it to earthquakes in CA. You know it can happen, but the actual experience is rare and seldom personal. It's just something you live with in the background. It is the Palestinians in their territories who are most directly affected and harmed by all of that.
