I'd just like to add a few facts, not to stir up controversy (caf, you know I would never do that), but to provide a balanced picture: 1. Mel Gibson's dad is a notorious anti-Semite and holocaust denier. 2. He belongs to an extremist fringe of Catholicism whose connection with the Mother Church is tenuous at best. 3. Most of the 'classic' passion plays of years gone by have been blatantly anti-Semitic. These are the things that are bothering most people, I think. I'm looking forward to seeing the film when it opens here in Germany. Since it is to be presented in the original languages, it will be shown here with German subtitles, good for me since spoken German in films tends to be too fast and indistinct. By the way, I loved The Last Temptation of Christ and don't understand what the controversy was about.
