Sorry, no pejorative meant by the term at all! My usage of "esoteric" was "difficult to understand"--that's apparently not the correct usage, now that I check dictionary.com. :-) I'm simply suggesting that there are things that are easy to understand, such as the fact that Jesus Christ died and rose again, and that we ought to try to be like Him in every aspect of our character. There are also facts and theories about facts in the Bible that are not so easy to understand and which are sometimes best appreciated by the individual who gleaned them. Not always, but sometimes. God designed the Word so that it would have something to offer to everyone. There are plenty of truths in the Bible for people of every intellect to grasp, from the young in the faith to the old in the faith. Whatever truths we glean, they should be put to use to either change our character or increase our faith in God or the Word. They are not just to be put on the shelf as a trophy. Does that make more sense?
