They are indeed hard words to live by. And don't expect the adversary to respond in kind. Beliefnet has a recent interview with Richard Dawkins, one of the best known and most ardent proponents of mechanistic evolution in our time. On a side bar with the interview are audio excerpts of a speech he gave last fall to a an assembly of secular humanists. Particularly noteworthy is the sound bite "evolution and theism are incompatible". Of course, he's essentially right about the incompatibility, though many religious people want to have it both ways.
